King Falcon, Teddy Rosé, Always Morning & Phatt James

Event time 9pm - 2am

King Falcon - Outfitted with lived-in and loud vintage gear, shaped equally by 21st century alternative and classic rock, and proudly born in New York City, King Falcon rev up raw and raucous anthems with attitude and a whole lot of emotion. The quartet—Michael Rubin [vocals, lead guitar], Joe Conserva [bass], Sergio Ripa [guitar], and Dipayan “Dip” Chakraborty [drums]—boldly break boundaries both in the studio and on stage. In between spending hours with a guitar in-hand, Michael obsessed over classic records by Steely Dan and Led Zeppelin in addition to Tame Impala’s Currents. The Queens native attended School of Rock for years and eventually founded his first project Inoculated Canaries, stirring up local buzz, touring, and landing on radio airwaves. Progressing as a singer and guitarist, he officially launched King Falcon in 2020.

Teddy Rosé - Teddy Rosé is a four-piece psych/indie-rock band from New Haven, CT, known for their infectious stage energy and original music.

Always Morning - Always Morning is an alternative/indie rock band blending emotionally charged songs with a nostalgic yet fresh sound that appeals to both indie pop and 90s rock fans.

What is Drummer vs DJ?

“Drummer vs DJ” is a niche performance style that fuses the excitement of a club DJ with the energy of a live drummer for a mind-blowing and one-of-a-kind experience.

The "Drummer vs DJ" performance style has its roots in various musical genres, including hip-hop, rock, and electronic dance music (EDM). The concept of live drumming and electronic music production coming together in performance is not new, but it gained widespread popularity in the mid-2000s with the emergence of a few key performers.

One of the earliest and most influential "Drummer vs DJ" pairs was DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) and Travis Barker of Blink-182, known together as TRV$DJAM. The two began performing together in the early 2000s, blending hip-hop beats, rock anthems, house, and other dance music genres with live drumming in a high-energy performance that quickly gained a following. They performed at clubs, award shows, and music festivals worldwide drawing thousands, and were known for their innovative mashups and remixes.

Another noteworthy "Drummer vs DJ" duo is the combonation of DJ Jazzy Jeff and Questlove of The Roots. These two hip-hop DJs have also played many venues togehter around the country, showcasing their combined expertise in turntablism, drumming, and musical taste. If you've ever had the opportunity to witness these two live, consider yourself lucky.

In addition to these established pairs, numerous other musicians and performers have adopted and continue to showcase the "Drummer vs DJ" performance style, often collaborating in one-off duos that perform at local clubs and events worldwide. Although this performance style is not new, our battle league brings a fresh and exciting twist to the scene, offering a unique competitive platform for these talented artists to showcase their skills.

CT Open Decks

CT Open Decks

CT Open Decks is a monthly, house music-focused open decks and networking event. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for new and up-and-coming house DJs to play out live, and to help grow and connect the house music scene in CT!

How Sign-ups work

  • In-person sign-ups for the following month will be available at each event before they open online.

  • If those slots are not filled, we will open online sign-ups for the remaining slots.

  • Your best chance of getting a slot is to attend the next event and sign up in person (get there early)!

HOW online sign-ups WORK

  • Go to the SIGN UP page and fill out the form

  • Read the considerations and click the button at the bottom of the page to continue to the sign up form. Sign-ups are handled by a third party service.

  • Select the slot you want and fill out the form.

  • Show up and play!

    dj, dancer? come network!

CT Open Decks was created with the goal of growing the CT house music scene by providing more opportunities for DJs to play, as well for fans of house music to come dance and find their new favorite sound! So whether you’re a DJ, a dancer, or just love the vibes, we encourage you to come through and meet your people!

    CONSIDERATIONS:

important! read this before signing up!

  • This is a house-music-focused event. While we love all kinds of dance music, the goal of this event is to help grow the house scene in CT and help house DJs, fans, and promoters meet and network with each other. We understand that genres aren’t an exact science, they bend and blend — we aren’t going to micromanage your set, but generally, please make sure you are playing house music if you sign up. This is not a bass music, dubstep, techno, or open format event.

  • A Pioneer Opus Quad and an XDJ will be available at the event. To use the Opus Quad, you MUST bring a Rekordbox USB using the Device Library Plus format. If you are unsure if your USB is using the correct library format, please refer to OUR TUTORIAL PAGE. If your USB does not work, and you have no backup solution, your slot will be given to someone else. If you are unsure if your USB will work, you should sign up for the back room and use the XDJ.

  • The event runs from 8pm - 12:30am

  • Sets are 45 mins long. There are 12 slots available at the next event, split between a front and back room.

  • We do not currently offer turntables for vinyl (but we’re working on it). Please do not bring your own turntables.

  • Please arrive at least 15 min prior to your set. Time is limited, and if you do not show up by your assigned start time, your slot may be given to someone else.

  • The event occurs at Stella Blues in New Haven, CT (204 Crown St.)

  • While we encourage new DJs to get familiar with a Pioneer setup, you are welcome to bring and use your own controller; but it must be set up and ready to go by the time your set starts. Any time spent setting up beyond that point will eat into your set time. Sets will not be extended. You can connect via RCA into the decks. We will provide XLR and RCA connections, if you require a different setup, make sure to bring the appropriate cables and/or adapters with you, or you will not be able to play.

  • Don’t forget your headphones!

JME Starchild & The Dream Factory

JME Strchild, stage name for musician and performer Jaeme Brennan McDonald, is a widely

acclaimed and seasoned multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, mix engineer, and audio producer.

With over three decades of experience in the industry, JME has honed his craft in the studio and

during live performances through roles both on stage and behind the scenes. From writing and

recording with music legends Living Colour, to backstage work with Janelle Monae, B.B. King,

Peter Wolf and countless others, JME’s creativity and devotion to his craft have earned him the

respect and admiration of his musical peers and fans alike.

JME has self-produced five albums throughout his career, showcasing his songwriting talents

via an eclectic blend of hard funk, rock, and R&B that he has dubbed “proto-retro rock and soul”,

a blend of modern technology with classic sounds. The addition of vocals by Rachel Tonucci

and drumming by Mark Manczuk result in Dream Factory, a carefully crafted blend of studio

wizardry and dynamic live performance. The group will perform songs from JME's earnest

beginnings in 2004 to his most current material from 2023's Lessons From the Prophet and

2025’s EP ReDux Ex Machina.
